Position Summary

This role is responsible for clinical intake and assessment, diagnosing mental health disorders, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, and providing ongoing counseling and psychotherapy services. The clinician also conducts evaluations related to eligibility and readiness for gender-affirming medical and surgical care.

This position requires demonstrated competence and experience in providing affirming, trauma-informed behavioral health services to sexual and gender minority populations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive behavioral health intakes and biopsychosocial assessments
  • Diagnose mental health disorders in accordance with DSM-5-TR criteria
  • Utilize appropriate psychological assessment instruments and clinical techniques aligned with diagnostic findings
  • Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans grounded in current psychological theory and evidence-based practice
  • Provide individual counseling and psychotherapy services
  • Complete assessments for eligibility and readiness for gender-affirming medical and surgical procedures, in alignment with applicable standards of care
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation within the electronic health record
  • Collaborate with medical providers and interdisciplinary care teams to support coordinated, patient-centered care
  • Provide services in a manner that is affirming, inclusive, trauma-informed, and respectful of diverse identities and lived experiences
  • Adhere to all ethical, legal, and professional standards, including state licensure requirements and clinic policies

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field
  • Current licensure or willingness to obtain license(s) in the state(s) of practice; NH, ME, (e.g. LICSW, LCMHC, LMFT, PsyD, PhD, Psych NP, Psych PA). We are not able to provide clinical supervision toward licensure at this time.
  • Demonstrated training and experience providing clinical services to sexual minority populations and gender-diverse populations (including transgender and nonbinary individuals)
  • Knowledge of gender-affirming care standards and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in nonprofit, community health, or integrated healthcare settings
  • Experience providing gender-affirming care assessments and letters of support
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and harm-reduction frameworks

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Position Summary

Lovering Health Center’s Medical Office Manager will direct the daily non-clinical operations of the healthcare facility to ensure administrative efficiency and high-quality patient care.  The Medical Office Manager will support each patient’s healthcare experience with a welcoming, affirming, and knowledgeable approach.  This position will directly supervise one office operations team member.  In addition, they will work closely with the on-site Executive Director, Nurse Manager, and clinical team to coordinate daily operations and patient access for all of LHC’s clinical services.  Collaboration is required with the remote Billing/Coding specialist, additional staff, and volunteers.    

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Promote a fair, respectful, and collaborative work environment.
  • Supervise and manage daily office operations; involves direct daily support.
  • Ensure effective provider utilization and patient scheduling management.
  • Oversee purchasing and inventory management for office supplies, equipment, and printed materials.
  • Maintain, update, and/or implement Standard Operating Procedures for non-clinic operations of the healthcare facility to ensure administrative efficiency.


Office Operations management:

  • Answer telephone and Klara inquiries, provides information about the services offered at Lovering Health Center.
  • Make patient appointments for clinic services in the EMR (Athenahealth).
  • Ensure front desk, check-in and check-out, coverage during all operating hours.
  • Educate patients on their rights and responsibilities in alignment with our Informed Consent policies.
  • Facilitate internal and external referrals.  Assist the team to manage and update referral resources and documents.
  • Manage medical record request workflows handling all patient health information in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Manage sending and receiving patient registration and consent documents via Athena and/or Klara with integration into the Electronic Health Record.
  • Take payment for services. Calculate sliding scale costs for uninsured/underinsured patients.
  • Collect cash and credit card payments, reconciling at the end of the shift, and preparing bank deposits.
  • Oversee inventory of the front office supplies and assists with ordering needed supplies.
  • Huddle with the clinical team on a daily basis to promote smooth patient health care experiences.
  • Work with the office operations team to address and resolve patient concerns and/or grievances, soliciting additional support from the Executive Director as needed.
  • Klara and Athena updates implemented / communicated to the team.
  • Ensure facilities calendar goals are met.
  • Monitor BCCP enrollment and additional program / resource opportunities for patient support.
  • Ensure annual safety training and periodic safety drills are up to date.
  • Coordinate internal office operations with Billing and Coding specialist to ensure patients are billed accurately for services rendered, and that patients are given the information needed to reconcile payments due, payment plans, and insurance billing questions.
  • Other duties as required.


Collaboration with Executive Director:

  • Manage clinical and administrative volunteer communication, scheduling, and tracking.
  • Support scheduling and managing rotating providers.
  • Work with the Executive Director to ensure high-quality front office operations are maintained and improved as needed to meet customer service standards.
  • Act as backup for key operational functions as defined with the Executive Director.

  • Strong financial management and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with healthcare software systems including EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.
  • High school graduate / GED or higher with experience in a medical office setting.
  • Previous healthcare management or medical practice administration experience strongly preferred.

  • Operates in a professional, fast-paced, and collaborative healthcare environment.
  • Regular interaction with colleagues, supervisors, and/or patients occurs in person, by phone, and via digital communication platforms.
  • Standard office hours apply, with occasional flexibility required to meet deadlines, attend meetings, or respond to organizational needs.
  • Work may require sitting or standing for extended periods, using computers and other standard office equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Infrequent lifting of materials (e.g., boxes, equipment) weighing up to 50 pounds.
