Abortion Care

Abortions are a normal and common healthcare procedure. 1 in 3 people who can get pregnant get an abortion before the age of 45. We empower our patients with accurate and up-to-date information regarding their care to make an informed choice that is right for them. Our supportive and knowledgeable staff is dedicated to providing our patients with the necessary resources and tools to continue making informed healthcare decisions.

We offer both Medication Abortion and the In-Clinic Procedure. Both methods are safe and effective. There is no one “best” method. You will be able to choose which method is best for you based on your preferences and needs.

We are committed to being a welcoming space for all folks of the community receiving abortion care. All genders across the spectrum receive abortion care.

If you are a minor seeking abortion care, please see more information about New Hampshire Parental Notification Law. We understand that this can be an overwhelming process and are happy to assist you through the steps.

Medication Abortion

  • Medication abortion is a non-invasive abortion process. It avoids surgical and anesthetic risk and can occur very early in pregnancy. It has been perceived by many patients to be more natural and allows more privacy and control.
  • Compared to the in-clinic procedure, medication abortion causes longer bleeding duration and more abdominal cramping. Heavy bleeding and cramping are expected during this process.
  • Medication abortion is a safe and low-risk process in early pregnancy.
  • Many people choose this option because they feel it is more private.
  • You will have a pregnancy test and ultrasound at the health center.
  • We will provide you with the medications that you need to take; Mifeprex and Misoprostol.
  • Please be prepared to spend time at home during the time that you are releasing your pregnancy.
  • We require all patients receiving abortion care to have a pre-appointment telehealth consultation with a health worker. This appointment is included in the fee. This will shorten your time in the health center and allow you to learn more about the abortion process and ask questions. If you are interested in starting a new birth control method, you can also receive birth control education during this appointment. You cannot be seen in person for your abortion without a prior telehealth appointment.
  • We have an on-call answering service available for urgent medical concerns regarding your abortion care.
  • We require that you return to the health center for a follow-up visit for an ultrasound to ensure you are no longer pregnant.
  • Our fee for medication abortion is $550 at the time of your appointment. The fee includes the pre-appointment telehealth consult, in-house lab work, an ultrasound, and a follow-up appointment. If extra testing or medication is needed you may be subject to an additional charge. If you are having difficulty paying for your appointment, we will do our best to help you

In-Clinic Abortion Procedure

  • The in-clinic abortion procedure (also known as Aspiration abortion) is a minimally invasive procedure that typically takes less than 10 minutes.
  • In-clinic abortion procedures rarely result in complications and are highly effective.
  • For those up to 14 weeks, 6 days from the first day of your last menstrual period.
  • We require all patients receiving abortion care to have a pre-appointment telehealth consultation with a health worker. This will shorten your time in the health center and give you the opportunity to learn more about the abortion process and ask questions. If you are interested in starting a new birth control method, you can also receive birth control education during this appointment. You cannot be seen in person for your abortion without a prior telehealth appointment.
  • The appointment is typically 2-3 hours including the actual procedure which is completed in 7-10 minutes.
  • Performed under local anesthesia (you are awake) using gentle suction.
  • It is normal to feel moderate to heavy cramping during the procedure.
  • The abortion is performed by an experienced, board-certified physician
  • All methods of birth control are offered at your visit, including same-day IUD and Nexplanon insertion.
  • We have an on-call answering service available for urgent medical concerns regarding your abortion care.
  • Our fee for an in-clinic procedure starts at $550 on the day of your appointment. This fee includes a telehealth pre-appointment consult, an ultrasound, in-house lab work, and a follow-up appointment. The fee may change depending on gestation, additional medication, and/or testing. If you are having difficulty paying for your appointment, we will do our best to help you access assistance.

Preparing for Your Appointment

If you have access to a printer, you may download and print your paperwork to complete before your appointment: Appointment Paperwork.

Please come to your appointment on time with a photo ID, insurance card, and form of payment (cash, credit card, debit card). Payment is due at the time of your appointment.

If you have insurance, we can verify your benefits for you before your appointment. We will need your insurance information at the time of scheduling your appointment to ensure there is enough time to verify benefits. Please note: All insurance plans through the State of New Hampshire (Medicaid, Medicare, Wellsense, New Hampshire Healthy Families, etc) do not cover abortion and will only cover abortion in cases of life endangerment, rape, or incest.

Arriving on time for your appointment is important. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late to your appointment we may need to reschedule. Please call the health center if you run into a delay. We have a 24-hour cancellation policy for all appointments which are subject to a no-show fee.

Please wear a face mask at all times in the health center. At this time, we are not allowing additional guests into the building.

For the in-clinic procedure, we recommend you wear comfortable clothing and comfortable undergarments. We also recommend that you eat something light before your appointment.
