2013 Pioneer Circle Awards Keynote Speaker Governor Madeleine Kunin
Madeleine May Kunin is an American diplomat and politician. She was the 77th Governor of Vermont from 1985 until 1991, as a member of the Democratic Party. She also served as United States Ambassador to Switzerland from 1996 to 1999. Kunin is also the author of the book The New Feminist Agenda.
The celebration will also honor Portsmouth residents Karl and Paula Singer who have supported the center’s work since 1980 and defended reproductive rights in New England. Dr Singer advocated for women about contraception in the 1960’s and 1970’s, when it was still a taboo subject in Massachusetts, where he was practicing. Paula Singer has helped the health center with her support for as long as we have been open. When it comes to reproductive rights, they are a dynamic duo. We are very grateful for their unwavering and loyal support all these years.
